About:
Mineola High School student-athletes came together for a meaningful cause during the week of October 12, hosting Pink Week in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The initiative brought together the Girls Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Volleyball, and Varsity Football teams, who proudly wore pink to raise awareness and show support for individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
Mustangs Rally Together for a Cause
Throughout the week, Mineola’s athletic programs turned their sporting events into opportunities to give back, bringing athletes, coaches, families, and community members together in support of an important cause.
Fans attending the three events had several opportunities to participate in fundraising activities, including:
- Raffle ticket sales
- Lucky Duck games
- Donations
- Guess-the-number-of-chocolates contests
These activities helped create a fun and engaging atmosphere while encouraging spectators to contribute to the fundraising effort.
Using Sports to Make a Difference
Pink Week demonstrated how school athletics can unite an entire community around a shared mission.
By incorporating fundraising opportunities into their games, Mineola student-athletes helped spread awareness while showing how teamwork and school spirit can extend beyond the playing field.
The participation of three varsity athletic programs also highlighted the importance of collaboration, as athletes from different sports joined together to make a positive impact.
Making an Impact Beyond the Game
Initiatives like Mineola’s Pink Week remind us that the power of sports reaches far beyond competition. Whether wearing pink to show support, helping organize fundraising activities, or encouraging community participation, student-athletes have the ability to inspire meaningful change.
