About:
The Mineola Volleyball teams had a standout performance in their recent Dig Pink games on October 7th, with both the JV and Varsity teams securing clean sweeps against Lynbrook. These victories were part of the annual Dig Pink initiative, which raises awareness and funds for breast cancer research, making the event both a triumph on the court and a powerful show of community support.
The gym at Mineola High School was transformed with pink decorations, and the crowd came out in full force to support the cause. Although no players volunteered to honor specific family members affected by breast cancer this year, the teams created posters with inspirational messages and breast cancer facts, hanging them around the gym to promote awareness. Over the years, the event has evolved, and while the team used to collect donations from fans, they now make their own contribution to the Dig Pink Foundation from funds raised throughout the season.
In addition to their Dig Pink efforts, both the JV and Varsity volleyball teams dedicated time on October 5th to serve the local organization League of Yes, which provides opportunities for individuals of all abilities to participate in sports. The players volunteered by partnering with baseball players, offering them a chance to be a part of a supportive and inclusive community.
Mineola UFSD congratulated the volleyball teams on their achievements, both in the games and in their efforts to give back to meaningful causes. Together, the teams showed that the power of sports extends beyond competition, creating a lasting impact on the court and in their community.
