About:

Throughout the month of October Monroe Woodbury, student athletes participated in many events to help raise funds and awareness for Breeast Cancerr.

Some of these events included:

Girls Varsity Soccer at the Making Strides Walk for Breast Cancer at the Woodbury Commons

Girls Modified Volleyball also at the Breast Cancer Walk

Cheer and Football at the Walk

Varsity Football at the Walk (we received several calls from survivors telling us how impressed they were with this group’s energy and motivation)

Cheer Program – Modified, JV, Varsity all took part in the Walk

Girls Varsity Cross Country represented  the district at the Walk as well

Varsity Volleyball held a Pink Out  and Modified volleyball teams supported from the stands

Boys Varsity Soccer Pink Out game

JV Boys Soccer Pink Out

JV Girls Soccer Pink Out game

Each team had their own reason for participating.  Our football team, for example, focuses on cheering on all the walkers and motivating them throughout the walk.  They make tunnels, give high fives and cheer loudly and with tons of energy.  This is the team we get the most feedback about.  Survivors have called the office telling us how much the presence of these teams means to them. Some of our teams walk in memory or honor of a family member.  Two of our coaches have close family members affected by breast cancer. Our school’s proximity to Woodbury Common is one of the reasons we choose to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness activities throughout October.  The Walk is the culminating activity.
