The Monticello Girls Track and Field program is demonstrating how athletics can be a meaningful platform for character development and community connection through a thoughtful team initiative focused on gratitude.
As part of a two-week themed focus, the team’s first theme, “Grateful to Others,” encourages student-athletes to reflect on the individuals who have positively impacted their lives. Athletes are taking time to create handwritten cards and messages of appreciation for coaches, teachers, family members, mentors, and community members who have supported them along their journey.
This simple but powerful activity helps reinforce important values such as empathy, reflection, and leadership beyond competition. By recognizing the contributions of others, the Monticello athletes are strengthening relationships within their school and broader community while building a culture rooted in appreciation and positivity.
