About:
Nothing can truly put into words what Claire has been through. She hit one of the most memorable shots in Maple Grove girls basketball history in a state quarterfinal game and made an immediate impact as a freshman for the Bison. She was thriving and doing what she loved.
Then, while training for her sophomore season, sudden cardiac issues changed everything.
The results were difficult and led to the discovery of a very rare heart condition that caused damage to her heart over time. What it did not damage was her spirit. Instead of letting it define her, Claire turned to helping others facing the same condition. That passion led to the creation of the Rare DNA Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness among the public and medical professionals.
This night, much like Saturday, January 31st, when NDSU plays Oral Roberts, is about more than basketball. Claire and the Rare DNA Foundation are hosting a night to raise awareness and share her story. There is also a meaningful connection to Minnetonka, where Claire’s longtime AAU coach, Dre Jefferson, is now the head coach and works closely with the foundation.
Yes, we have a game on Monday, but Monday is about more than a game. It’s about perspective. Life brings challenges, and Claire’s story is a powerful example of turning tragedy into something that impacts and inspires others.
