About:
“Last Spring, I was brainstorming ways to address student-athlete mental health in our school when junior (now senior) student-athlete, Greta Gado approached me about her interest in bringing Morgan’s Message to Manchester Essex. After researching the organization, I fell in love with their mission and was determined to help her bring it to our school community. From there, the two of us reached out to the organization and set-up a meeting to learn more about what it takes to start a chapter at our school.
Greta partnered with four other student-athlete leaders from various sports (Pippa Spingler, Quinn Brady, Caelie Patrick, Henry Thurlow) and together, they became ambassadors of the program. We then held four dedication games at Spring sports to kick-off the chapter and introduce it to our school community.
This Fall, our club/chapter started with 30 members and has grown to over 70 through the hard work and leadership of our student-athlete ambassadors. We plan to hold meetings each month to bring awareness about the importance of prioritizing student-athlete mental health and create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all student-athletes to discuss their struggles. We are also holding dedication games each season to promote the organization, bring awareness to the importance of mental health, and raise funds for the organization. We’ve held four games so far this Fall and are excited to continue!” —
