The Mount Sinai Girls Varsity Basketball program and broader school community are coming together to honor the life and legacy of beloved coach and teacher Tom Walker, whose impact reached far beyond the classroom and the basketball court.
Coach Walker was known not only for his passion for teaching and coaching, but also for his deep belief in his students and athletes. He served as a mentor, role model, and source of encouragement for thousands of young people throughout his career. His dedication to building confidence, discipline, and leadership helped shape the lives of countless student-athletes, many of whom viewed him as a second father.
In an effort to celebrate his lasting influence, the girls’ basketball program is leading a meaningful initiative to raise funds for the Tom Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship aims to support future students while ensuring that Coach Walker’s commitment to education, leadership, and personal growth continues to inspire generations to come.
Community members are encouraged to support the effort by purchasing items through the team’s memorial merchandise store, with all proceeds going directly toward establishing and sustaining the scholarship. Additional contributions can also be made through a GoFundMe campaign created by the Walker family.
This collective effort reflects the powerful bond between a coach and his community — and demonstrates how student-athletes can turn grief into purpose by honoring a legacy through service, leadership, and giving back. Coach Walker’s influence will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the opportunities created in his name.
