About:
Mt. Pleasant Elementary School in the Smithtown Central School District came together to show its love for the community in April. The school participated in the Blankets of Hope project, a grassroots effort started by two brothers from Brooklyn to help the homeless.
The idea to participate in the project was brought to the school by a parent. Since Mt. Pleasant isn’t doing any fundraising this year because of the pandemic, the parent was able to secure a donation from her employer, Fox Corporation. Fox donated 528 blankets to Mt. Pleasant’s efforts.
Each student wrote a message or a letter of hope which was then attached to a blanket. The messages of love were wrapped tightly in purple blankets and given to the school’s social worker. The social worker will be working with local families and organizations to distribute all the blankets in the community.
