About:
The Mt. Sinai High School Boys Volleyball team is turning its game into an opportunity to make an impact through a special “Spike Out Childhood Cancer” event.
On October 1 at 4 p.m., the team will take the court at Mt. Sinai High School while rallying athletes, families and community members around the fight against childhood cancer. Fans are encouraged to wear yellow or gold to show their support.
The effort extends well beyond game day for the program’s approximately 22 student-athletes. Players are actively helping raise funds by selling raffle tickets and reaching out to companies, local businesses and restaurants to request donations for the event.
On October 1, both the junior varsity and varsity teams will also work together to support the fundraiser. During the JV game, varsity players will sell concessions and hot food, and during the varsity match, JV players will take over those responsibilities.
The event will also feature raffles, with proceeds benefiting two meaningful causes. Half of the money raised will be donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Pediatric Cancer Center, while the other half will support a local family.
Adding to the significance of the night, Mt. Sinai players will take the court wearing special gold jerseys generously donated by the Murgatore Family, helping bring even greater visibility to childhood cancer awareness.
