About:
Seventh-grade students recently demonstrated the power of compassion, community, and service when they welcomed the ALS Ride for Life to their school with an outpouring of support and enthusiasm.
The visit became a memorable experience for both students and guests as the Murphy community came together to honor the organization’s mission. Students lined the welcome route with handmade posters, filled the atmosphere with cheers and encouragement, and showcased their talents through a special performance by the chamber choir.
The event served as an opportunity for students to learn more about ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a progressive neurodegenerative disease, while gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of advocacy, awareness, and supporting those facing difficult challenges.
One of the highlights of the visit was the presentation of a $550 donation raised by Murphy students. Their collective contribution reflected not only generosity but also a commitment to helping make a difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by ALS.
The ALS Ride for Life has spent decades raising awareness and funds to support ALS research, patient services, and advocacy efforts. Through educational visits and community outreach, the organization continues to inspire people of all ages to get involved and support the fight against the disease.
For Murphy students, the experience was about much more than fundraising. It provided an opportunity to practice empathy, kindness, and civic responsibility while seeing firsthand how small actions can contribute to a larger cause. The handmade signs, musical performance, and warm welcome demonstrated the meaningful impact young people can have when they come together in support of others.
Events like this help students develop a greater understanding of community service and the importance of using their voices and talents to create positive change. The day served as a reminder that compassion and action can go hand in hand.
Team Up 4 Community applauds the Murphy Middle School students, staff, chamber choir members, and everyone involved in welcoming the ALS Ride for Life and supporting the ongoing fight against ALS.
