It was the thought of one of the swimmers to host a meet that would raise awareness for Suicide Prevention Awareness as well as Mental Health. Quite often teams do cancer fundraisers that affects some people, they thought this way it would be closer to home and the rising epidemic of depression and anxiety that faces many people. Throughout the planning and preparation of the event, there were several people that said how suicide has recently impacted their lives including both young and old. The volleyball team played at home on the same night so the coaches and teams decided to do the fundraising together to benefit the Oswego County Coalition for Suicide Prevention. The athletes helped out by putting together 30 baskets were raffled off, selling those tickets as wells as wrist bands, key chains. The teams also bought a “you matter” t-shirt and sold them to the faculty too. The students also decorated the hallway as well as the gymnasium in teal and purple for suicide prevention. The total amount of money raised was $3700 dollars, according to the coaching staff.
