About:
Mynderse Academy Volleyball Team for volunteering at the Out of Darkness Walk.
The AFSP is the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention which promotes The Out of Darkness Walks in an effort to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide. The walks are held in hundreds of cities across the country, they give people the courage to open up about their struggle or loss, and the platform to change our culture’s approach to mental health. Through the walks and the donations it helps us to raise awareness so we can continue to invest in new research, provide education and support survivors of suicide loss.
With being a professional working with youth and their families who struggle from mental illness and suicidal thoughts. I felt it was important to get our youth involved in this event so they could see what an impact one person can have on someones life.
This year, I asked the Mynderse Varsity and Junior Varsity Volleyball team if they would be willing to volunteer at this event. There were 13 girls who participated in the event. Sydney Haust And Megan Marley (both varsity) volunteered 6 hours a piece, Kaitlyn Biccum, Alyvia Christensen, Nora Linehan, Julia Trickler (JV) Jenny Page, Alyssa Marley and Mya Soto (varsity) each volunteered 5 hours a piece, Maranda Marr (jv) volunteered 4 hours and Kierstym Hager, Janya Dyson And Yahniece Harris (JV) each Volunteered for 3 hours a piece.
All together this team volunteered 60 hours.
