About:
At their first meeting of the year, members of the student council at Newbridge Road Elementary School in the North Bellmore School District were talking of ideas for their first service project of the year and the answer was clear. They launched a hurricane relief drive, which runs through Oct. 28, to collect a variety of supplies.
The items will be contributed to a larger drive sponsored by the Town of Hempstead and then give to Relief Drive for America. All donations will benefit residents of North Carolina and Florida affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Among the items that the student council is collecting include baby items, cleaning supplies, first aid supplies, flashlights, garbage bags, paper goods, pet food, socks and toiletries. There are large donation boxes throughout the school and student council officers have been spreading the word among their classmates, in addition to make daily announcements.
