About:
The North Rockland Central School District recently came together for Childhood Cancer Awareness Week, encouraging students and staff across the district to show their support for children and families impacted by cancer.
Held from September 22–25, the week featured a different theme each day, giving the school community a meaningful way to participate while learning more about the challenges faced by young cancer patients.
On Tuesday, students took part in “Team Up Against Cancer” by wearing favorite sports jerseys, team shirts, or North Rockland red and white. The theme highlighted the idea that fighting cancer takes a team of family members, doctors, and friends working together.
Wednesday’s “Side by Side in the Fight” encouraged students to coordinate outfits with a friend, classmate, or teacher, symbolizing solidarity and companionship throughout the cancer journey.
On Thursday, students participated in “Comfort for the Journey” by wearing cozy, school-appropriate pajamas. The day recognized the long treatment and recovery hours many children spend in hospital beds.
The week concluded on Friday with “Go Gold Day,” when students and staff were encouraged to wear as much gold or yellow as possible. Gold is the international symbol for childhood cancer awareness, representing the courage, strength, and bravery of young fighters.
Through the weeklong initiative, North Rockland helped raise awareness while creating opportunities for students to show compassion, unity, and support for children and families facing cancer.
By turning the district gold, the Red Raiders demonstrated how a school community can come together around an important cause and remind young fighters that they are not alone.
