About:
40 North Salem Athletes (the girls and boys lacrosse teams) participated fully in the One Love events. An additional 50 athletes participated if you include the teams that we played against in the One Love Dedication games. Important to note that the opposing schools were not just passive participants. They participated in social media awareness campaigns as well. The North Salem athletes helped by fundraising, participating in the youth clinic we ran (they were the coaches for the various age groups), creating posters, selling t-shirts, volunteering during the events, raising awareness via social media posts, and disseminating information about healthy relationships.
The One Love Foundation was chosen for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, the athletes believed that learning about healthy and unhealthy relationships is vital at this age and something that needs more exposure. In addition, One Love Foundation has a strong connection with lacrosse as Yeardley Love was a collegiate lacrosse player. Finally, one of our athlete’s (who played a key role in planning and organizing) travel lacrosse coach is related to the Love family, which led to the cause being particularly important to her.
