About:
The Northport-East Northport Union Free School District recently came together for its annual St. Baldrick’s event, uniting students, staff, and community members in a powerful show of support for childhood cancer research. Through their combined efforts, the event raised an impressive $47,088 to fund lifesaving treatments and support for children battling cancer.
The event featured inspiring guest speakers including Charles Armstrong, an author and cancer survivor; Karen Paquet, a dedicated parent advocate and district staff member; and Dr. Rina Meyer, a pediatric hematologist at Stony Brook University Hospital, who shared valuable insights about how St. Baldrick’s-funded research is transforming patient care.
One of the event’s highest honors, the League of Legendary Heroes recognition, was awarded to Northport High School Assistant Principal Dr. Terrence Hinson for his outstanding commitment to the cause.
Several participants were also recognized for their long-term dedication to the event. Those earning the Squire title for three years of involvement included James Barth, Ryan Bockelken, Ray Catapano, Brian Drew, Declan Hand, Connor Killoran, Mackenzie Konop, Benjamin McCabe, Justine Neknez, Miles Offermann, Joey Pizzo, and Pierson Prestano. The Knight level for seven years of dedication was achieved by Cameron Gribben, Karen Paquet, and Augustine Stuertz. John Braun and Nora Nolan were honored as Barons for their remarkable 20 years of participation.
The district takes immense pride in everyone who participated, exemplifying how community generosity and dedication can make a meaningful difference in the fight against childhood cancer.
