Oceanside Student-Athletes in Service to Others

Here at Oceanside, we started a student-athlete leadership group called Student-Athletes in Service to Others.  This leadership group is composed of scholar-athletes -all of whom have a 90 GPA or higher, participate in at least one varsity sport, and who qualified by filling out an application and being referred by a coach and a teacher.  We have a physical education teacher, our NCAA coordinator, and myself who help run this program.  This great group has helped organize and run our life-fit “challenger” basketball games and will be helping host a life skills kickball game in which we will have three other schools participate.  In addition, we have a group of our members who hosted and continue to host tutoring sessions with their peers.  This group has come together to create the SASO Instagram page which is in development and helped organize material and created a video posted on the main Twitter account. We created this group this January and are continuing to create opportunities for our student-athletes to give back and have a voice in our athletics program.
