The West Seneca West Warhawks basketball program showcased the power of athletics to connect, inspire, and give back through its Annual West vs. East Coaches vs. Cancer game.
This special event united Modified, JV, and Varsity student-athletes from both the boys’ and girls’ programs, creating an atmosphere where older players supported and encouraged younger Warhawks while rallying around an important cause. The night highlighted not only competition on the court, but also mentorship, unity, and a shared purpose across every level of the program.
By participating in Coaches vs. Cancer, the Warhawks used basketball as a platform to raise awareness and support those impacted by cancer. The event benefited the Jimmy V Foundation, raising just over $2,000 and welcoming approximately 500 attendees. The gym remained packed from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., filled with energy, excitement, and smiles throughout the evening.
The evening kicked off with a faculty basketball game featuring teachers from West Middle School, coached and refereed by student-athletes. The event then transitioned into game action, beginning with the West vs. East girls modified basketball matchup, followed by the boys modified game.
Fans enjoyed interactive activities throughout the night, including t-shirt tosses and shooting contests, with $1 shots offering a chance to win prizes. One of the most memorable moments came during player introductions, when the JV and Varsity girls formed a high-five tunnel for the girls modified team, followed by the same show of support for the boys—creating an unforgettable experience for the younger athletes.
Overall, the energy, enthusiasm, and sense of community on display truly reflected the spirit of the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative. The Annual West vs. East game continues to be a meaningful tradition at West Seneca West, demonstrating how student-athletes can make a powerful impact when they come together for a cause bigger than the game.
