About:
Tis is our third year doing this Suicide Prevention/Mental Health Awareness game. Last year we raised $1800 for the Mental Health Advocates of WNY. All proceeds went directly to them. It is our motto to help spread awareness that when playing sports- IT’S SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A GAME. There are so many pressures that young student/athletes experience and we want to raise awareness. YOU MATTER! It’s okay to not be okay and to seek help when needed.
We are selling YOU MATTER teal/purple bracelets in both districts (Orchard Park and Lancaster). We have a donation link set up directly to the Mental Health Advocates of WNY on our behalf. This year we were honored to hear that West Herr wanted to jump on board and help spread awareness and they were a GOLD LEVEL donor for the cause. They will be presenting a check to MHAWNY at our game on Saturday. We will be selling snack/baked goods and also have a donation jar. The girls are decorating the diamond as well.
On our team we really focus on coming together as a “family” so that everyone feels supported and comfortable. This is a topic that many of them are very passionate about.
One of my student-athletes, Ava Farina, is going to give a speech at the game as well.
It is not about winning or losing in the game of softball or any sport. It’s about winning in life and loving who you are.
