About:
Last week, Ossining’s Landmark Diner had a major fire which burned their building down. The Diner has been a major supporter of Ossining Athletics and especially the Ossining HS Football Team for years. They donated team dinners the evening prior to games. They also donated breakfast for the players and coaches the Saturday after games. Their generosity extended further than our program and all of Ossining Athletics benefited.
After the fire, the owner of the Diner Ari, didn’t ask for anything. His only concern was for his employees who would be unemployed due to the fire.
As a program, we wanted to show our appreciation to the owner and the men and woman who cooked and served us meals each week. So I asked all the seniors on the team to sacrifice a few hours of their time to help raise money for the workers. To a man they all agreed without hesitation.
So that Saturday morning after practice, with the help of several girls from Ossining Cheerleader and Soccer team, we made posters and stood out in front of the Arcadian Shopping Center to raise money. I’m just one hour, we received over $1,000 in donations.
Our community is small in size, but big in spirit. We will also be soliciting donations at our first home game. All of the donations will then be presented to Ari and his Landmark Employees at the halftime of the game.
