About:
On December 3, the Oswego Buccaneers Hockey team transformed the rink into a space for awareness, unity, and reflection. With hearts full of purpose, the team took to the ice to honor the lives of Austin and Carter Vashaw, two cherished individuals whose memories continue to inspire acts of kindness and support within the Oswego community.
The evening was dedicated to raising awareness for pediatric brain cancer and mental health, two causes deeply connected to the Vashaw family’s story. To symbolize solidarity, the Bucs encouraged attendees to wear white, creating a powerful visual statement of unity in the stands. Players proudly donned commemorative Vashaw jerseys, a touching tribute to the brothers whose legacies live on in the hearts of many.
Beyond the game, this event served as a call to action—a reminder of the importance of supporting families impacted by pediatric illnesses and advocating for mental health awareness. Through their efforts, the Buccaneers underscored the strength of community and the power of sports to bring people together for a greater cause.
Thank you to the Oswego Buccaneers for shining a light on these critical issues and for honoring Austin and Carter in such a meaningful way. Your commitment to making a difference exemplifies the true spirit of community service.
Let’s continue to carry their legacy forward, one act of kindness at a time.
