About:
In the Merrick School District, the Birch School’s Students Against Destructive Decision club, which includes student athletes, packaged 35 boxes of food for the Interfaith Nutrition Network in Hempstead.
All students, teachers, administrators and faculty were asked to donate canned goods or nonperishable food items including pasta, soup, vegetables, jars of sauce, chicken broth and stuffing to the SADD club’s Thanksgiving food drive. During their recess time, fourth- and fifth-graders volunteered to package and organize each box to contain equal representations of all donations for families to enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving dinner. Additionally, Thanksgiving placemats and decorations were made by students to be included in each box for families to embrace the holiday spirit.
