About:

First graders at Park Avenue Elementary School in the North Bellmore School District wanted to send some love for Valentine’s Day. Students in Patricia Assande’s and Robin Obey’s classes packed valentine activity bags for children staying at the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park.

The Ronald McDonald House is a place for families to call home while a child is undergoing care for serious medical conditions, providing them with a comfortable environment during difficult times. The New Hyde Park facility serves families of children who are being treated at Metropolitan area hospitals.

Activity packets created by the Park Avenue first graders included tic-tac-toe board, Valentine’s Day-themed mazes, word searches and coloring pages, a package of crayons and a handmade card. Ms. Assande that the goal of the service project was to “sprinkle kindness and good cheer around the community.”
