About:
The Patchogue-Medford (Pat-Med) Girls Basketball program recently brought its school and local community together for its annual “Coaches vs Cancer – Play for a Cure” fundraiser game — an evening dedicated to awareness, support, and collective strength.
This year’s event held special meaning as the program honored teacher and coach Dominic Nuzzi, recognizing his courage, resilience, and lasting impact on the Pat-Med school community. Players, coaches, students, and families rallied around the cause, demonstrating the powerful role athletics can play in uniting people during challenging times.
The night featured both junior varsity and varsity matchups, along with a fun elementary school shootout, creating opportunities for younger students to be part of the experience and strengthening connections across grade levels. Additional highlights included raffles, music from the high school band, and donation efforts that raised funds for the American Cancer Society and the Nuzzi Strong initiative.
More than just a game, the event showcased leadership, empathy, and school pride. By organizing and participating in this meaningful fundraiser, Pat-Med student-athletes used their platform to inspire hope and demonstrate that when a community comes together with purpose, the impact can extend far beyond the final buzzer.
