About:
Valley Stream South High School students and staff members took the schoolwide Service Week, recognized from April 16-20, as an opportunity to bring warmth and support to those near and far who have endured recent losses. Through the creation of Peace Dove banners, South extended meaningful sentiments to others.
Under the guidance of teachers Rosanna Ali and Colleen Byrne, a Character Action Team at South coordinated this project. Students wrote heartfelt messages on paper doves and filled them with colors and illustrations. The doves were linked together to form banners of peace and hope.
One finished product went to the students, teachers and families of Parkland, Florida. Another was sent to longtime member of the Valley Stream Central High School District, Eileen Davidson, who lost her husband, firefighter Michael Davidson, in March. A third banner was displayed at South to serve as a daily reminder of the importance of kindness and good character.
