About:
The Pearl River Varsity Softball team recently took part in a cherished annual tradition by attending the Pearl River Little League Opening Day Ceremony—an event that has connected the varsity team with the community since 2014. This year’s celebration was especially memorable as senior first baseman Kayla Damon had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, a symbolic gesture of support for youth sports and the next generation of athletes.
The team’s presence at Opening Day is more than just a yearly appearance—it’s a powerful way to build bridges between current student-athletes and the young players who look up to them. On years when the team’s schedule allows, the varsity athletes make it a priority to attend and interact with local youth softball players, sharing encouragement and sparking inspiration.
Over the years, the program has also hosted youth clinics to deepen those connections, offering young athletes the chance to learn directly from their varsity role models. Events like Opening Day help maintain strong ties not only with the students but also with the families who support youth athletics in Pearl River.
Through ongoing community involvement, Pearl River Varsity Softball continues to demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship, and a deep commitment to growing the sport they love.
