About:

My name is Madison Eighmy and I am a senior on the Our Lady of Lourdes Girls Basketball team.

Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day is February 15. For the past three years at the end of January or the beginning of February, the Our Lady of Lourdes Girls basketball team has partnered with Go4theGoal.org to wear yellow shoe laces to raise awareness of pediatric cancer. We invited Red Hook girls basketball to participate with us this year because many of us know each other from playing together.

Carol Feriozzi, athletic coordinator for the 501(c)(3) charity provided our team with a flyer which we posted to social media.  The girls basketball team collected donations at the door for our game against Red Hook on Friday, January 27th. Our Lady of Lourdes Cancer Awareness Club, which I co-chair, ran a concession stand during the game. All proceeds from the laces, donations collected at the door, and concessions were donated to Go4theGoal. We selected this charity because, although it is a national charity, the funds raised during the OLL/Red Hook girls basketball game, stay in New York to help New York families.

Here is some information from the charity:
Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer began in the fall of 2011.  Since then, professional, college, high school, and youth teams have participated in raising funds and awareness for the #1 disease killer of children.  To date, over a half million athletes have supported our cause.  100% of all donations directly benefit kids and families in the state where the funds are raised.

Go4theGoal works to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial assistance, granting special wishes, developing unique hospital programs, and funding innovative research.  Learn more about Go4theGoal and how you can help to make a difference by visiting Go4theGoal.org

There are 12 girls on the team including myself.  I have put in about 8 hours and the team in general has put in about 2 hours towards the cause.
