About:
Each year, Pittsford Hockey united for a powerful cause with its annual Pink the Rink fundraiser, dedicated to supporting breast cancer awareness and research. Since its inception in 2008, inspired by Celester Frohm—whose son Aaron was on the team at the time—this event had grown into one of the program’s most cherished and impactful traditions.
With 100% of proceeds donated to breast cancer research, Pink the Rink raised over $100,000 to date, a testament to the dedication of the team, parents, and broader community. Special jerseys adorned with patches honoring cancer victims and community members added a deeply personal touch to the night, making it a meaningful experience for all involved.
On February 1st, Pink the Rink brought the community together for an unforgettable evening at Tim Hortons Iceplex. The JV game kicked off at 5:00 PM, followed by Varsity at 6:30 PM. Tickets were $5 each or $20 for a ticket and a t-shirt, available for purchase from January 27-31 via MySchoolBucks, during high school lunches, at the Athletic Office, and at the gate on game day.
The event’s success relied on the commitment of Pittsford’s 50 hockey players, who contributed by selling tickets, distributing flyers around town, creating social media content and videos, and making announcements at school. During the games, the Varsity cheer team (15 members) and pep band (approximately 20 students) enhanced the game-day atmosphere. The cheer team also played a crucial role in organizing activities such as chuck-a-puck, raffles, and t-shirt giveaways.
While there was no set monetary goal, the event typically raised between $5,000 and $8,000 annually, a number the organizers hoped to reach once again this year. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, who contributed through program ads and donations, Pink the Rink continued to be a tremendous success.
Last night’s Pink the Rink event was awesome. We donated $15,000 to the BCC of Rochester. Both our JV and Varsity teams won—JV 10-3 and Varsity 5-0. Our opponent, Victor, hadn’t lost a game yet this season, so it was a great result.
More than just a hockey game, Pink the Rink is about community, remembrance, and making a difference. Thanks to everyone who joined in, we continue to fight against breast cancer together!
