About:
Pittsford Athletics is bringing its community together once again through its upcoming Pink the Rink hockey event, using the power of school athletics to raise awareness and funds for an important cause.
On January 31, Pittsford Hockey will face Fairport at Tim Hortons Iceplex, with JV action beginning at 5:30 PMfollowed by Varsity at 7:00 PM. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester, supporting education, advocacy, and resources for those impacted by breast cancer.
Student-athletes play a central role in making Pink the Rink a success. Approximately 50 hockey players across the two teams are actively involved in promoting and organizing the event. Their efforts include selling tickets, posting flyers throughout the community, creating social media posts and videos, and delivering announcements within their schools to encourage attendance and awareness.
The event also highlights collaboration across multiple school programs. During the games, Pittsford’s Varsity cheer team (15 students) and pep band (approximately 20 students) will take part in game operations and fan engagement. The cheer team supports fundraising efforts by running Chuck-A-Puck, raffles, and potentially distributing free T-shirts, helping create an energetic and inclusive atmosphere for all attendees.
Pink the Rink reflects Pittsford Athletics’ commitment to service, leadership, and community engagement. By empowering students to take ownership of awareness and fundraising efforts, this initiative demonstrates how athletics can extend beyond competition to make a meaningful impact.
This event stands as a strong example of the values behind the NYSPHSAA Community Service Challenge, showcasing student leadership, collaboration, and sustained commitment to supporting causes that matter.
