About:
Pittsford Athletics brought its community together once again through its 16th Annual Pink the Rink hockey event, using the power of school athletics to raise awareness and critical funds in the fight against breast cancer.
On January 31, Pittsford Hockey faced Fairport at Tim Hortons Iceplex, with JV action at 5:30 PM followed by Varsity at 7:00 PM. Proceeds from ticket sales benefited the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester, supporting education, advocacy, and resources for individuals and families impacted by breast cancer. Thanks to the combined efforts of both communities, the event raised an impressive $17,000.
Student-athletes played a central role in making Pink the Rink a success. Approximately 50 hockey players across the JV and Varsity teams actively led promotion and organization efforts—selling tickets, hanging flyers throughout the community, creating social media content, and delivering school announcements to drive attendance and awareness.
The night also highlighted collaboration across multiple school programs. Pittsford’s Varsity cheer team and pep band enhanced game operations and fan engagement. The cheer team helped fuel fundraising through Chuck-A-Puck, raffles, and giveaways, creating an energetic, inclusive atmosphere for everyone in attendance.
Pink the Rink reflects Pittsford Athletics’ deep commitment to service, leadership, and community engagement. By empowering students to take ownership of awareness and fundraising efforts, the initiative shows how athletics can extend far beyond competition—bringing communities together to make a meaningful impact.
