About:
“This is my second year as the varsity baseball coach at Pittsford Mendon High School. One of my main goals at Mendon, off the field, for my student-athletes is to be heavily involved in the community and being of service to others. At Mendon we are more fortunate then most and giving back to our communities is something that I want us to take pride in. One of the parents of a player on my team approached me about helping out with the Pirate Toy Fund and I was all for it.
We took a group of about 15-20 players and parents down to their Annual Pirate Toy Fund at the Blue Cross Arena on December 9th. We spent the afternoon passing out gifts, playing games, and helping kids who might otherwise not have had much of a Christmas. At that time they asked if we would be interested in helping them sort toys for next years event, that is what we did on Saturday from 8am to 12pm. I had about 8 players and a couple parents help out and sort and organize toys for them at their warehouse location.
Giving back to our community is something that I feel very strongly about and helps our players understand what it means to help and be of service to those in the community. I am fortunate enough to be in a community where the student-athletes and families are supportive of that mission and want to help out. Many parents come to me with different community service ideas and we try to do as much as we can. ”
