About:
The Port Washington Boys Tennis team recently combined competition, inclusion, and community service during its annual “Play with the Teachers: Accepting Autism” event, bringing students, teachers, and administrators together to support a meaningful cause.
The event featured a friendly doubles tournament in which members of the boys tennis team partnered with teachers and administrators for an afternoon of fun competition while raising funds for ACEing Autism. The organization is dedicated to helping children with autism grow, develop, and benefit from social connections and physical activity through affordable tennis programming.
Before the tournament began, members of Port Washington’s INVEST program joined the tennis team on the courts for rallies, games, and tennis activities. These interactions created an inclusive and welcoming environment where students connected through sports, teamwork, and shared experiences.
The event highlighted the power of athletics to bring people together and create opportunities for meaningful engagement. By combining fundraising with hands-on participation, students were able to support an important cause while fostering greater understanding and inclusion within their school community.
ACEing Autism has helped thousands of children nationwide develop social skills, build confidence, and improve fitness through tennis-based programming. Through events like “Play with the Teachers: Accepting Autism,” student-athletes help expand awareness of the organization’s mission while contributing to programs that make sports more accessible for individuals with autism.
Beyond raising funds, the event demonstrated Port Washington’s commitment to creating a school culture centered on acceptance, respect, and community involvement. The participation of students, teachers, administrators, and INVEST students showcased how collaboration and inclusion can strengthen connections throughout a school community.
The annual event continues to serve as a reminder that sports can be about much more than competition. They can create opportunities to support others, build relationships, and make a positive impact both on and off the court.
