The Power of Pink Tournament is hosted by the Queensbury volleyball team every year. Teams compete to raise the most amount of $$, in addition to competing on the court at the tournament. Our Hudson Falls team raised the most amount of money (a little over $7,500) and won the fundraising trophy. All proceeds/donations from the tournament go to the Side Out Foundation, an organization that focuses on research of stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. The entire tournament raised more than $40,000.
All of our volleyball program (2 modified teams, JV and Varsity) contributed to the fundraising effort- about 55 athletes total.
The girls ran several fundraisers throughout the season including a car wash, online t-shirt sales, many concession stands, a bottle drive, organizing pink events for other Hudson Falls teams, and asking local businesses for donations. The varsity team formed committees for each event and planned, promoted and executed their fundraiser.
The athletes started their committee planning during the first week of pre-season. We ran events throughout the entire Fall season.
The HF volleyball team spends a large portion of each season fundraising for this annual event. We broke our own record this year by more than $2,000. Aside from giving the athletes time to plan, I make a point of not running these events. The fundraising is 100% student driven from the brainstorming, planning, promotion and running of the event. This year the girls set an ambitious fundraising goal to honor our former JV coach, Karen Markey, who is currently battling breast cancer. I am incredibly proud of their effort.
