About:
The Putnam Valley varsity softball team recently hosted a heartfelt Strike Out Cancer game against Haldane, turning a regular matchup into a powerful tribute to those affected by cancer.
The event was made especially meaningful by the presence of two courageous cancer survivors and Putnam Valley parents, Mrs. Caputo and Mrs. Recuppio, who threw out the ceremonial first pitches. Their strength and stories served as a moving reminder of the resilience and hope within the community.
As part of the tradition, athletes wore special shirts to mark the occasion. The team also invited local survivors to attend, and a touching moment came when a team member spoke about a personal friend who passed away last year from esophageal cancer.
This game went far beyond the scoreboard — it was a night of remembrance, unity, and support.
