About:
This year marked our first annual Cancer Awareness Game, where we wore special jerseys bearing the names of loved ones affected by cancer. The front of the jerseys featured a “Fight Cancer” logo in various colors, representing different cancer types. Loved ones impacted by cancer were invited to throw out the first pitch to our players, creating a heartfelt moment.
During the game, we raised funds for a Riverhead Middle School student currently battling cancer. In addition to the personalized jerseys, we wore hair ribbons and pins corresponding to the colors of the cancers we were supporting. It was a meaningful event, showing solidarity and raising awareness for a crucial cause.
In addition the team hosted a suicide awareness game. Suicide is the leading rate of death in teens. This is something they are determined to change. As a team they want to break the stigma of mental health not only in sports, but in everyday life. Today they wore green, today they made a difference !!
