Rockville Centre South Side High School opened its varsity football season with more than just a strong performance on the field.
Before the Cyclones’ 36-0 victory over Elmont, the school community came together for a moving ceremony honoring the 25th anniversary of September 11.
Players, families, school leaders and community members paused to remember those who lost their lives on 9/11 and to recognize the service and sacrifice of local heroes.
Special recognition was given to members of the Rockville Centre Police Department, Rockville Centre Fire Department, South Hempstead Fire Department and veterans from the American Legion.
The ceremony also brought together district leaders, local officials and members of the community in a shared moment of remembrance and gratitude.
By beginning the season with this tribute, South Side Football helped reinforce the importance of honoring those who serve, remembering those who were lost and bringing generations together through community and sport.
