About:

Santapogue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District is doing its part to help raise awareness for heart disease by raising money for the American Heart Association throughout February.

Lead by the efforts of physical education teacher Mr. DiStefano, the Santapogue students are participating in the Kids Heart Challenge. The school’s initial goal of $9,000 has already been surpassed and they have currently raised more than $11,000 this month. While fun heart-healthy activities are part of the challenge, students also engage in lessons about nutrition, mental health, kindness and growth mindset.

Two Santapogue students – fourth grader Christopher Palazzo and first grader Samantha Palazzo – were recently recognized by American Heart Association youth market director for Suffolk County Susan DiMartino. The two students raised $7,500 to be donated to the American Heart Association.
