About:
The Sartell Sabres are using the power of athletics to spark meaningful conversations around mental health, hosting a special Mental Health Awareness Night in partnership with Sophie’s Squad.
The event brought the Sabres community together at the Scheels Athletic Complex, as the boys’ JV and Varsity teams took the floor with a shared purpose: raising awareness, reducing stigma, and showing support for mental wellness. Fans were encouraged to wear teal in solidarity, turning game night into a visible show of unity and care.
Mental Health Awareness Night served as a reminder that sports are about more than competition. By aligning with Sophie’s Squad, the Sabres helped highlight the importance of supporting student-athletes’ well-being and creating spaces where conversations about mental health are welcomed and encouraged.
On the court, the Sartell Sabres Boys Basketball faced off against the Northern Lakes Lightning, but the true impact of the evening extended well beyond the scoreboard. The night reflected a commitment to community, compassion, and leadership—values that define education-based athletics.
By using game night as a platform for awareness, the Sartell Sabres continue to demonstrate how high school sports can lead with purpose and make a positive difference in students’ and the broader community’s lives.
