About:
The Saugerties Varsity Boys Lacrosse team recently took the field for their “Stick It to Cancer” game, demonstrating how athletics can be a powerful platform for community impact and support for an important cause.
Facing O’Neill High School, the Sawyers earned an impressive 15–5 victory, but the true success of the evening extended far beyond the final score. Through the initiative, the team raised $1,520 for the American Cancer Society, surpassing its original fundraising goal.
The event helped raise awareness and support for cancer research, patient services, and advocacy efforts that impact countless families and communities. With 1 in 3 people facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, the team’s efforts served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of coming together to support those affected by the disease.
Student-athletes played with purpose throughout the evening, using their platform to give back and inspire others while showing what it means to compete with heart and compassion.
Initiatives like “Stick It to Cancer” continue to highlight the positive influence student-athletes can have both on and off the field. By rallying around a cause bigger than the game, the Saugerties lacrosse program demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to making a difference within their community.
