About:
Sayville Public Schools held its fifth annual STRIDES color run recently to support the district’s STRIDES wellness program, a program that aims to boost student mental health and physical wellness. The event brought the community and local organizations together for its mission of reinforcing self-esteem, resilience, and strength.
“The STRIDES color run was a wonderful success and heartwarming to see,” said Sayville Public Schools Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services Jillian Makris. “It was meaningful to see so many students, families, and staff members come together to enjoy a fun and energetic morning. The strong sense of community was evident everywhere you looked.”
Students and their families excitedly participated in the color run on the field behind Sayville Middle School. Community organizations were also present to provide resources and support services to Sayville families. Participating organizations included the Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce, Great South Bay Coalition, Youth Enrichment Service’s Community Mental Health Promotion and Support team, the Sayville chapter of Morgan’s Message’s, Sayville High School Anchor Club, Sayville Teachers Association, Sayville Public Library, Fit for Life, and Community Ambulance Company, Inc.
“We are so grateful for our high school student volunteers and community organizations, whose enthusiasm and support made a big difference, especially in helping our younger participants have a safe and positive experience,” said Ms. Makris. “We are proud of everyone who helped make this event such a vibrant celebration.”
