About:
Community kindness was in the air during recent parent/teacher conference days at Westhampton Beach Elementary School where families in need were afforded the opportunity to visit a pop-up resource center in the school’s cafeteria.
Available for all to take what may be needed were hundreds of donated items, from nonperishable food and winter coats and clothing to hygiene items and unwrapped toys. Also donated was a toddler bed and baby carriage.
The charitable event was made possible through the coordination of several community groups that wanted to provide assistance to local families during the holiday season. Among those assisting were the Westhampton Beach Elementary School and staff, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the Westhampton Pines Social Committee, Westhampton Beach High School junior and Girl Scout Cayla Kuey, the Knights of Columbus and the Westhampton Beach Elementary School PTA and local resident Stephanie Lander.
“This was a wonderful collaboration,” said Principal Lisa Slover. “The kindness displayed epitomized the true character of the Westhampton Beach community.”
Showing additional kindness during the season, an anonymous benefactor donated just over $300 to pay off all outstanding school lunch accounts.
“The school is more than grateful for this donation,” said Ms. Slover.
