About:
The Webster Schroeder Varsity Hockey team showed that leadership and teamwork extend far beyond the rink through a meaningful service project supporting families in need.
During a team dinner on February 12, all 20 players came together to assemble 150 grab-and-go snack bags for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester. Each player donated items—such as water, granola bars, and Goldfish—to help fill the bags, creating a true team effort from start to finish. Working assembly-line style, the group completed the preparation in about an hour.
The commitment didn’t stop there. During mid-winter break, three players took additional time following a team practice on February 16 to personally deliver the snack bags to the Ronald McDonald House’s Westmoreland Drive location. The quick drop-off—about 15 minutes—ensured the donations were immediately available to families staying at the house.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester provides a “home away from home” for families whose children are receiving critical medical care at area hospitals, including Golisano Children’s Hospital. The snack bags offer convenient nourishment for parents and siblings who often spend long, exhausting hours at the hospital and may not have time to prepare meals.
By stocking the pantry with 150 ready-to-go snack bags, the Warriors helped support RMHC Rochester’s mission to ease stress and reduce financial burdens for families during some of their most challenging moments.
This project highlighted the Webster Schroeder hockey program’s commitment to community service and team building beyond competition. By working together to support families in need, the Warriors demonstrated that empathy, character, and leadership are just as essential as performance on the ice.
