About:
The Seaford High School Students Against Destructive Decisions club held its Stomp Out Stigma shoe drive for the holidays. Students and staff could donate new or gently used shoes from Dec. 10-14.
All donations, including boots, flip-flops, shoes, slippers and sneakers, were given to the Shoes For All foundation which provides footwear to people in need from ministries and shelters throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
The shoe drive also helped to raise awareness for mental health issues and “stomp out” the associated stigmas. Psychologist and SADD club adviser Dr. Chelsea Emerman said the purpose was to educate students about the harmful impacts of stigmatizing people with mental health conditions. They received fact sheets from the National Alliance on Mental Health.
