About:
This past weekend, Section One boys varsity lacrosse teams came together not just for competition, but to support inclusive sports for children with diverse abilities through Able Athletics.
Hosted by Lakeland High School, the event highlighted the power of teamwork, sportsmanship, and breaking barriers in the lacrosse community. Each game was more than just a showcase of skill—it was a testament to the players’ commitment to championing inclusion and ensuring that sports remain a space where everyone belongs.
Now in its second year, the “Lacrosse For All” scrimmage day brought together 12 Section One high schools, each taking on the responsibility of fundraising for Able Athletics. This year, the teams collectively raised an impressive $9,000 to support the organization’s mission of empowering children with disabilities through adaptive sports programming.
Able Athletics provides tailored sports experiences for children with disabilities while also educating young volunteers on fostering inclusion. With the guidance of physical and occupational therapists and professional coaches, the program helps bridge the gap in sports opportunities, creating an environment where all athletes can thrive.
Beyond fundraising, many student-athletes remain deeply involved with Able Athletics. High school teams like Scarsdale and Yorktown dedicate six weeks to volunteering, forming meaningful connections and sharing their passion for lacrosse with incredible young athletes.
A huge thank you to Lakeland for hosting and to all the teams that participated. Your dedication continues to make a lasting impact, fostering a more inclusive and supportive sports community!
