About:
Student leaders from Selden Middle School are coming together to make a meaningful difference in their community through service, collaboration, and compassion.
At the heart of this effort are members of Student Government, the National Junior Honor Society, and the Home & Careers Club, who have united to launch the school’s 4th Annual Pantry Drive. This student-led initiative aims to support individuals and families experiencing homelessness by collecting non-perishable food items and essential personal care products.
In partnership with the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, donations will help stock a “boutique” that provides community members with access to necessities in a dignified and supportive environment.
The impact of this effort is especially important given the growing need—nearly 10,000 individuals on Long Island experience homelessness each year, with close to half being children. Through this drive, students are not only raising awareness, but actively working to ease that burden.
Donations can be sent in with students or dropped off at the school through May 15th, giving the entire community an opportunity to get involved and support the cause.
By leading initiatives like this, Selden Middle School students are demonstrating the true power of service—showing that when a community comes together, even small acts can create meaningful change.
