About:
or the first time, six different extra-curricular clubs comprised of over 100 students worked as a unified body to collect 536 non-perishable food items and 328 toiletry items for a total of 864 items for the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH).
Selden alumnus Rachel Cortes, a current Stony Brook student, spearheaded this donation drive in conjunction with her organization at Stony Brook University.
As a kickoff to the week-long collection drive, Rachel and two of her peers spoke to multiple club members and their advisors sharing that there are over 3800 homeless people on Long Island of whom 1200 are children.
Thank you to the Selden MS students, families, faculty and staff for all of your donations and help collecting and counting the items. It truly was a team effort. The collection drive was such a tremendous success that the advisors have already committed to making this an annual springtime event.
