About:
On Friday, February 20, the KM High School community rallied together for the Share the Warmth Coat & Sweatshirt Drive, held alongside the boys’ and girls’ basketball games.
In response to a growing need within the school, KM student-athletes helped organize a collection to support the high school pantry, which was running low on warm coats and sweatshirts. Fans attending the games were encouraged to donate new or gently used adult-size outerwear to help ensure that classmates and community members had access to essential winter clothing.
Donation bins were placed at the ticket tables, with additional drop-off opportunities available in the school office during the day, making participation convenient for everyone. To maintain dignity and quality, all items were required to be clean, free of stains or tears, and in good working condition with functional zippers.
By combining a spirited night of basketball with a meaningful service initiative, KM Basketball highlighted the impact student-athletes can have beyond competition. While the turnout in donations was smaller than hoped due to limited team promotion, the effort laid important groundwork. Plans are already in place to launch the drive earlier next year and increase team involvement to expand its reach and impact.
