About:
For the fifth consecutive year, Islip’s Sherwood Elementary School has partnered with the Seatuck Environmental Association to help reintroduce the northern bobwhite quail to Long Island. Once native to the area, the bobwhite’s presence will help reduce the tick population. Students in nine Sherwood classes were able to view the birds hatching during May. The quail chicks will live in the classrooms for three weeks before being released to Seatuck.
“The students were thrilled to be part of this project and will be able to visit the adorable birds throughout the summer at Seatuck” said second-grade teacher Robb Le Vien.
