About:
Members of our Girls Wrestling team joined Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, and the Suffolk County Police department to take about 40 kids from our community shopping for the holiday season! Great way to give back to our community!
The Walt Whitman Girls Wrestling team had 7 athletes helping the SCPD.
The athletes helped by pairing up with a police officer and taking a group of kids from the community to shop for gifts. Each kid has $75 dollars to spend on themselves. Each athlete helped the kids through Target and helped them pick out toys and gifts. After the kids shopped, all athletes and kids had pizza and did some arts and crafts.
The event started at 6pm, and lasted until about 10pm.
We choose to do this event because it’s close to home, not meaning distance but a lot of the children shopping attend our elementary schools. One of our wrestlers also volunteers with the SCPD.
