About:
Shore 2 Shore is proving that the impact of athletics extends far beyond the court, bringing its athletes together for a meaningful cause through a club-wide food drive in partnership with Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank.
Designed to be both impactful and engaging, the initiative turned giving back into a friendly competition among teams. Each group worked to collect the highest total poundage of non-perishable food donations, with the winning team earning a special prize—custom shooting shirts designed by the players themselves. The creative approach not only motivated participation but also fostered teamwork, leadership, and a shared sense of purpose across the entire program.
Families rallied behind the effort, contributing essential items such as peanut butter, pasta, canned goods, cereal, mac and cheese, and rice. Every donation helped support local families facing food insecurity, reinforcing the importance of community connection and service.
Beyond the donations themselves, the initiative served as a powerful learning experience. Athletes gained valuable perspective on the needs within their own communities while building pride in contributing to something greater than the game. Participants also had the opportunity to earn community service hours, with acknowledgment provided by Long Island Cares.
The drive was organized by Coach Lucas Essignman of the Shore 2 Shore 2036 Sasquatch team, helping lead the club’s commitment to service and community engagement.
Celebrating an Incredible Impact
The results of the food drive highlight just how powerful this collective effort was:
- Total food collected: 719 pounds
- Top team: Mamba – 197 pounds 🏆
This is an incredible achievement and a testament to the character, generosity, and teamwork of Shore 2 Shore athletes, families, and supporters. Every pound collected will go directly toward helping individuals and families in need across Long Island.
Congratulations to Team Mamba for leading the way, and thank you to every participant who made this initiative such a success. Shore 2 Shore continues to set the standard for how youth sports programs can inspire athletes to make a meaningful difference—both on and off the court.
