About:
In addition to the usual hub of activities at Albert G. Prodell Middle School library, students and staff have pumped up the Wildcats with Character initiative with this month’s theme of compassion.
Librarian Ann-Marie Kalin organized a collection of much-needed medical supplies, toiletries, small toys for children and more for people in Ukraine. Students also created notes of peace and hope written in the Ukrainian language. The initiative stemmed from Mrs. Kalin’s advisory students who became empowered by a Foreign Language Week postwar contest and, using Google Translate, translated the word “unity” into various languages. The students also crafted messages on care packages and to date have totaled more than six large boxes of items to be delivered to St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riverhead.
“The outpouring of care and love have spanned our entire building,” Mrs. Kalin said. “We are Prodell, a compassionate community.”
